ΒΟΒ MARLEY ΒΑΠΤΙΣΤΗΚΕ ΟΡΘΟΔΟΞΟΣ ΧΡΙΣΤΙΑΝΟΣ !

Όλοι έχουμε κατά καιρούς ακούσει τον Bob Marley μέσα από τους στίχους των τραγουδιών του να αναφέρει κάποια σημεία από την τότε θρησκεία του, τον Ρασταφαρισμό. 

 

Οι rastafari ως γνωστόν πιστεύουν ότι είναι υιοι του Ισραήλ, προσδίδοντας μια κοινή καταγωγή των κατοίκων της Αιθιοπίας με αυτή των κατοίκων του παλαιού Ισραήλ. Έχουν ως σύμβολο το Λιοντάρι της Ιουδαίας (Lion of Judah), και σκοπός τους είναι να επαναπατρισθούν κάποια στιγμή στο Όρος της Σιών (Zion). 

Θυμηθείτε τους πολύ διάσημους στίχους του "Iron Lion Zion" του Bob Marley: 

"I'm gonna be iron like a lion in Zion" (θα είμαι δυνατός σαν λιοντάρι στην Σιών), 

ή και τους στίχους του λιγότερα γνωστού "Zion Train":

"Oh, children, Zion train is comin' our way; get on board now!" (Το τρένο της Σιών έρχεται, παιδιά, επιβιβαστείτε όλοι τώρα!).

Αυτό που οι περισσότεροι από εμάς δεν γνωρίζουν είναι ότι ο Bob Marley πριν πεθάνει βαπτίστηκε Χριστιανός Ορθόδοξος. 

Στις 4 Νοεμβρίου 1980, οκτώ περίπου μήνες πριν το θάνατό του κι ενώ βρισκόταν στις ΗΠΑ, ο Μάρλεϊ βαπτίστηκε στην Αιθιοπική Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία με το όνομα Μπερχανέ Σελασιέ (Berhane Selassie = “Φως της Τριάδας”) από τον αρχιεπίσκοπο της Αιθιοπικής Ορθόδοξης Εκκλησίας. Υποστηρίζεται ότι η μητέρα του, Σεντέλα Μπούκερ, τον πίεζε να βαπτιστεί, ενώ ο ίδιος αντιδρούσε όντας μέλος των Δώδεκα Φυλών, αλλά τελικά συμφώνησε υπό το φόβο του θανάτου και ως χάρη προς τη μητέρα του. Σύμφωνα με τον αρχιεπίσκοπο της Αιθιοπικής Ορθόδοξης Εκκλησίας Abuna Yesehaq, ο Μάρλεϊ εκκλησιαζόταν κι επιθυμούσε να βαπτιστεί για μεγάλο διάστημα πριν το κάνει τελικά. Αρκετοί Ρασταφαριανοί δυσαρεστήθηκαν με τη δημοσιοποίηση της βάπτισης, που επήλθε με την κηδεία του, ενώ μέλη των «Δώδεκα Φυλών» θεώρησαν τη βάπτισή του ως προδοσία κατά του κινήματος Ρασταφάρι. Αντίθετα άλλοι συγγραφείς τη θεωρούν ως προσχώρηση σε ήδη υπάρχον κίνημα το οποίο διατηρούσε τις πολιτικές και κοινωνικές θέσεις και τα ιδιαίτερα πολιτιστικά χαρακτηριστικά των Ράστα, ενώ παράλληλα τιμούσε τον αυτοκράτορα χωρίς να τον λατρεύει. Στο κίνημα αυτό ανήκαν και άλλα συγκροτήματα όπως οι Abyssinians, αλλά και τα περισσότερα μέλη της οικογένειας του Μάρλεϊ.
